Where to Stay in Prague: Malostranská Residence Review

If you’re planning a trip to Prague and looking for spacious, comfortable, and centrally located accommodations, Malostranská Residence is a fantastic option to consider. In this review, I’ll share what it’s really like to stay here, covering the location, rooms, service, and overall value, so you can decide if it’s the right fit for your trip.

When I was planning a girls’ trip to Prague with my mom and sister for my mom’s 65th birthday, finding the right accommodation turned out to be trickier than I expected. A lot of hotels in Prague aren’t really set up for three adults, and booking three separate rooms in a nice location adds up fast. Malostranská Residence seemed like the perfect solution and here is my honest review of our stay.

About Malostranská Residence

Malostranská Residence is a unique accommodation in the heart of Prague’s Malá Strana neighborhood, just steps from Charles Bridge. Set inside a beautifully restored historic building, the residence combines the charm of old-world Prague with modern comforts. The apartments are spacious and designed more like homes than hotel rooms, with multiple bedrooms, full kitchens, and plenty of living space. At the same time, guests still enjoy hotel-style perks such as daily cleaning and a staffed front desk for assistance. It really offers the best of both worlds, historic atmosphere, apartment-style living, and the ease of a boutique hotel.

Location: Mala Strana

Malostranská Residence is right in the heart of Malá Strana, one of my favorite neighborhoods in Prague. You’re literally tucked between Old Town and Prague Castle, which makes it such an easy base for exploring the whole city on foot. The building itself is just a few steps from Charles Bridge and right next to St. Nicholas Church, where we stumbled onto little pop-up markets with food and souvenirs during our stay.

Malá Strana has this old-world charm with winding cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, and cozy cafés, but it’s a lot quieter than across the river in Old Town. It felt like the perfect mix. It was close to everything, but with a calmer vibe once you stepped back into the neighborhood.

Check In

One thing to know about Malostranská Residence is that the front desk isn’t staffed 24/7. You will want to let them know your approximate arrival time, especially if you’re coming in late. When you arrive, you’ll press the call button on the box outside the main door and a staff member will buzz you in. After that, you’re given a key to the front door to use for the rest of your stay, which makes coming and going super easy.

The Accommodation

We were so impressed with Malostranská Residence and just how much space we got for the price. First of all, when you walk in it’s absolutely beautiful. The entry way has painted ceilings, old-world charm everywhere, and even a little courtyard you can step out into. The property has several different apartment layouts, and we stayed in the President’s Apartment. It was huge, with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a spacious living room, and a full kitchen. There was even a small balcony overlooking the street, which made it feel extra special.

The beds were comfortable, the rooms were spacious, and the apartment had everything we needed. There was a washer (no dryer, but they did provide a drying rack in the closet), and each room had its own air conditioning unit. They also left earplugs in case street noise bothered us. But honestly, we didn’t find it that loud at all. If you’re traveling with kids, they can provide rollaway beds or cribs. The kitchen was well-stocked with glasses, plates, cutlery, and even a dishwasher. It also has a full-size fridge.

The only downside for me was that the curtains in our apartment were quite thin, so the morning light came in early during our September stay. Not a huge deal, I just used a sleep mask, but something to keep in mind if you’re a light sleeper.

Accessibility

Malostranská Residence does have an elevator, which isn’t always guaranteed in older European buildings. If you’re traveling with kids, luggage, or just don’t want to deal with lots of stairs, it definitely makes things easier.

Service

I was honestly so impressed with the service at Malostranská Residence. Going in, I expected it to feel more like an Airbnb, but it has some of those extra hotel perks that make your stay easier. The front desk staff were incredibly helpful and genuinely friendly. I actually left a necklace behind. One of the staff members not only found it but mailed it back to me, which was above and beyond.

They also provide daily room cleaning service. This is something I always miss when staying in a traditional Airbnb. Having fresh towels and a restock of toilet paper makes such a difference, especially if you’re staying for more than a few days.

On top of that, the staff arranged transportation to the airport for us at 5 a.m. Little touches like that really made the whole experience feel seamless.

Dining

Malostranská Residence doesn’t have a designated restaurant on-site. They can arrange breakfast for you if you’d like. But honestly, with so many gems right outside the door, you’ll probably want to head out and explore.

One of our favorites for breakfast was Torto, just a short walk away. Our guide on a Prague food tour recommended it as having some of the best kolaches in Malá Strana. They definitely lived up to the hype. The coffee was excellent too!

Final Thoughts: Our Honest Review

I highly recommend Malostranská Residence when staying in Prague, especially if you’re traveling with family or a group of friends and want more space than you’d get in a traditional hotel. The apartments give you room to spread out without losing the comfort of hotel perks. For us it was the perfect setup.

The location honestly can’t be beat. I know it’s tempting to book right in the middle of Old Town, but I actually find that area overwhelming with the crowds, especially in peak tourist season. Malá Strana is still central and yes, it has its fair share of tourists, but it feels calmer and more manageable. Plus, the Charles Bridge is literally just steps from the front door, and you’re within easy walking distance of both Old Town and Prague Castle.

The building is old, so it comes with a few quirks, but that’s also part of its charm. You feel like you’re really staying somewhere with history and character, not just a generic hotel. Add in the cozy cafés and great restaurants right around the corner, and it makes for a really lovely base in Prague.
