15 Things to Do in Arlington Texas

Looking for the best things to do in Arlington, Texas? Whether you’re visiting for the weekend or you’ve lived here for years (like me!), Arlington is packed with fun, family-friendly attractions, delicious food, and hidden gems. Often overlooked in favor of its flashier neighbors, Dallas and Fort Worth, Arlington more than holds its own. From adrenaline-pumping rides at Six Flags to laid-back afternoons at River Legacy Park, there’s something for everyone in this underrated Texas city.

I grew up in Arlington, and after years living away, I’m lucky to call it home again. This city holds so many memories and even more surprises. Whether you're planning a visit or just looking for a fresh way to explore your hometown, this list of things to do in Arlington, Texas is packed with can’t-miss favorites, hidden gems, and local spots I personally love. From thrill rides and live music to laid-back parks and seriously good barbecue, there's something here for every kind of traveler (or staycationer).

1. Ride the Coasters at Six Flags Over Texas

You can’t talk about Arlington without mentioning Six Flags Over Texas. This iconic theme park is packed with thrill rides, family-friendly attractions, and seasonal events. I’ve been going since I was a kid and now I take my own kids. Pro tip: Go early and hit the big coasters first before the lines build.

2. Cool Off at Hurricane Harbor

Right across the freeway from Six Flags is Hurricane Harbor, the ultimate summer splash zone. Lazy rivers, wave pools, and giant water slides, it’s basically Texas heat survival 101. Bring plenty of sunscreen and claim your shady spot early!

3. Tour AT&T Stadium (a.k.a. “Jerry World”) or Catch a Cowboys Game

Even if you're not a die-hard football fan, this stadium is a Texas-sized marvel. Stadium Tours let you walk the field, check out the locker rooms, and get a peek at the VIP suites. And if you're here during football season? Nothing beats the energy of a Cowboys game under those massive stadium lights.

4. Catch a Rangers Game at Globe Life Field

Our brand-new baseball stadium is indoor (hallelujah for A/C), making it the perfect spot to cheer on the Texas Rangers in style. It’s super family-friendly with great food options, and yes, there’s brisket involved.

5. Explore River Legacy Park & Living Science Center

River Legacy Park is one of my absolute favorite places in town. With miles of shaded trails, playgrounds, and picnic spots, it’s perfect for a morning walk or a kid-friendly afternoon. The Living Science Center adds a little education to the fun with hands-on exhibits and native animal encounters.

6. Visit the UTA Planetarium

Located on the University of Texas at Arlington campus, the UTA Planetarium is a hidden gem, especially if you have space-loving kids (or just want to sit in a dark air-conditioned dome and look at stars). They’ve got public shows on everything from black holes to Texas night skies.

7. Eat Some Seriously Good BBQ

Texas takes its BBQ seriously, and Arlington has some of the best around.

  • Hurtado BBQ: Smoked brisket, birria tacos, and sides that slap.
  • Smoke’N Ash BBQ: A unique, award-winning Texas-Ethiopian fusion that you have to try.
  • Coming soon...Roy Hutchins BBQ: Old-school and delicious, especially if you’re craving ribs.

8. Kick Back at Texas Live!

Located between the stadiums, Texas Live! is like a giant sports bar meets live music venue meets food hall. It’s buzzing before and after games but fun any night of the week. Perfect for a big night out or just watching the game with a cold drink in hand.

9. Catch a Free Show at Levitt Pavilion

Right in the heart of downtown, Levitt Pavilion hosts free outdoor concerts all summer long. It’s family-friendly, bring-your-own-blanket kind of fun. In fact, our kids' school does their end of year performance there every spring! We love packing a picnic and letting the kids run around while we enjoy some live music under the stars.

10. Laugh at the Arlington Improv

If you’re in the mood to laugh (and maybe escape the heat), Arlington Improv brings in nationally known comedians and is a great option for date night. Just make sure to get tickets early, it often sells out!

11. See a Show at Arlington Music Hall

From tribute bands to gospel singers and classic acts, Arlington Music Hall is a charming, historic venue that’s been entertaining locals for decades. There’s not a bad seat in the house. And we know because our daughter's dance recital takes place here every year!

12. Brunch and a Spa Day at The Sanford House

Looking to relax? The Sanford House is a boutique inn and spa right near downtown Arlington. Their brunch is top-notch, and the spa services are the perfect treat-yourself moment. It’s my go-to for a girls’ day or special occasion and we're lucky enough to call the owner a friend.

13. Take a Tour of Top O’ Hill Terrace

Once an illegal gambling den and speakeasy in the Prohibition era, this site has a wild history. Now located on the Arlington Baptist University campus, Top O'Hill Terrace offers fascinating tours with secret tunnels and tales of gangsters and Hollywood stars.

14. Go Bowling (and More) at Alley Cats

If you asked our kids, Alley Cats would be their highlight of living in Arlington. It's one of those places where you can’t really go wrong, bowling, laser tag, arcade games, mini golf. It’s fun for the whole family or a rainy-day escape with friends.

15. Try Indoor Rock Climbing at Dyno-Rock

Ready to burn some energy? Dyno-Rock Indoor Climbing Center is great for beginners and seasoned climbers alike. My kids love it, and I may or may not have gotten a pretty good arm workout chasing them up the walls.

Arling-Fun has it all!

Whether you're here for the weekend, catching a game, or lucky enough to call this city home, there’s no shortage of fun, food, and adventure waiting for you in Arlington. I hope this list gives you a few new ideas, and maybe even helps you fall in love with Arling-Fun the way I have, all over again.
